u&u Recruitment

20160129_RRP9574u&u Recruitment is not your typical recruitment agency and builds its business on forming strong relationships. This was an important factor in their selection of a design studio to help realise their vision and aspirations for their new Brisbane based workplace.

They saw the strong creativity and disruptive nature of The Bold Collective and knew that it would be the right fit. u&u Recruitment see themselves different to more mainstream organisations and wanted to capture this within a less traditional workplace environment to be shared by their team and candidates.

The Bold Collective worked on a number of different conceptual plans as there were challenges to accommodate numerous interview rooms yet strive to creative a predominately open plan environment. This resulted in the floor splitting into three zones, that being the front of house for candidates, the back of house for staff and the dual purpose middle ground for both. u&u also recognised the need to be easily identifiable from the lift as they were not the only tenant on the floor. As The Bold Collective also offers Graphic Design services it was easy to holistically weave this branding and language through environmental graphics as the lift doors opened.

It was critical candidates felt at home and so it was an obvious link to bring this aesthetic within the workplace environment particularly within the interview rooms and front of house spaces. The aesthetic is best described as an industrial / Hampton’s fusion relative to Brisbane. The reception arrival space is more of a living room with high decorative ceilings and feature pendants. A series of frames are displayed behind the arrival desk instead of traditional signage where interchangeable content can refresh the space as required. A simple palette of whitewashed timber, white finishes and stone with black decorative accents truly capture the aesthetic.

You are drawn from the timber chevron runway through to the client facing rooms interview rooms. The Decorative white glazing frames border the interview rooms and provide a unique aesthetic and a less ‘corporate’ design approach. Together with different lighting selections and distinct wallpapers it gives each space a different personality.

The client was very conscious that the aesthetic was to be translated through the entire workplace and not only captured in the client facing zones. Careful consideration was applied to the placement of team table clusters together with a collaborative high bench and perimeter lounge banquettes. A variety of workplace planting was strategically located to help enhance the collaborative areas and bring the outside in.

The Breakout / kitchen was designed adjacent to the front of house zone to enable catering but carefully considered for staff. It was critical this was part of the dual purpose ‘town hall’ space but wasn’t the central focus. The base building naturally stepped out to produce a beautiful light filled double height ceiling space perfect for our diner style booths. The charcoal leather seats along with beautifully white turned timber tables provided a great collaborative space for teams and offered an alternative work environment removed from the bustling workplace beyond.

The large boardroom was to cater for training purposes and large events so the ability for flexibility was key. The dynamic chevron carpet tile planks create a rug like destination to this room and the agile furniture make it simple to reconfigure. The timber flooring was carried through into the room to border the carpet tiled area. Two perimeter banquettes provide further flexibility once the rooms is opened but also for larger presentations within the rooms itself.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with u&u Recruitment and saw this project as another example of our effectiveness to deliver an interstate project seamlessly.

Testimonial from the Client

“We went through a vigorous process in selecting The Bold Collective to do the fitout on our new Brisbane office, and were ecstatic with the outcome. As a professional services firm, our people and culture are critical to our success, and our office needs to reflect our unique brand and culture. We had a clear view on wanting to steer away from a sterile, commercial, mainstream office, and to continue to capture the essence of our brand – vibrant, energetic, boutique, high end, and almost a residential feel.

The reason we chose The Bold Collective was that they were the only designers that really “got it”. They were able to take our vision and implement it beautifully. Everyone that sees our office loves it, and remarks how amazing it is that we’ve been able to capture the essence of our brand so beautifully.

The team at Bold were highly professional, accommodating and responsive throughout the process, and their client service skills are just as good as their design capability. It made little difference that they were based interstate – the process was seamless. I have already recommended The Bold Collective to all that have asked for a referral (most on seeing our office!) and will continue to do so. We are delighted with our new office.”
